From the Leisure Activities Committee, March 13th, 1975, referring re closure-Aggie Hall to past discussion on the fact that when the new facility on Laurier Avenue is completed Aggie Hall would no longer be used for programming and would be closed, and recommending that as the new facility will be ready some time in May or June, 1975, the Aggie Hall be closed on May 31st, 1975. The Committee, in its report, however, pointed out that investigations are presently underway as to the possibility of obtaining a Federal Grant to upgrade historical buildings and that further reports would be forthcoming. Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That as recommended in a report from the Leisure Activities Committee, March 13th, 1975, the Agricultural Hall be closed and no longer used for programming as of May 3lst, 1975; AND THAT investigations respecting a Federal Grant be actively pursued for the purpose of upgrading that historical facility. Carried. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Traboulay mentioned that the building does not meet the current fire regulations and Mayor Campbell stated that strict adherence to those regulations would mean that the buiiding would be closed immediately. The Fire Chief agreed with the comments made by Mayor Campbell but stated that in the case of an old building such as the Aggie Hall, the current regulations were very difficult to enforce as it would really involve a complete rebuilding of the entire structure.
