COUNCI! Tos The Mayor and Aldermen MAR 27 1972 From: The Environmental Sub-Committee March 23rd, 1972 TOT Rm ee LL. ‘ Re: Share Council ~ Opportunities for Youth Grant - Garbage Recycling The Environmental Sub-Committee has been informed that students from Mary Hill Secondary School and George Pearkes School have applied for a Federal Opportunities for Youth Grant under the aegis of the Shdre Council, to carry out a recycling programme. It ig understood that the programme will include a venture into collection of materials for recycling, with a view to testing public reaction to recycling. The students have assured the Committee that the programme will not conflict with any other studies presently being contemplated. The students have asked that Council endorse the programme and write a letter to the Federal Gov- ernment to add weight to their application. . The Committee has not studied the complete proposal by the students and are not able to comment on its specifics at this time. However, the Committee firmly supports the involvement of the young people in this area of endeavour and recommends to Comeil that a resolution be passed endorsing, in principle, the application by these youths.
