A Mandelay Pictures crew spent the last week in May here shooting for the feature film Beyond Borders in the Mat- son Creek area near Trapline Mountain - an area down the Copper River forest ser- vice road. The movie, which stars Jolie, Clive Owen and Linus Roache and is described as an epic tale of war-torn romance, has been filming in Quebec, England and Kenya. It’s believed no major actors were here, and the shooting primarily consisted of background scenery, says Terrace Eco- nomic Development Authority executive director Brian Baker. “It’s our understanding they just came in to do some filler shots and some shots that were needed decause the film was actually completed,” he said. That’s not uncommon, says Sara Shaak, of the Northern B.C. Film Com- mission in Prince George. “Sometimes the footage gets corrupted and they have to redo it or they decide they need to do something a little differ- ent and they go back and reshoot,” Shaak said, She said Mandelay and Beyond Bor- ders director Martin Campbell also used northern B.C. to do last-minute reshooting work in their previous film, Vertical Li- mnits. According to a new book by a Holly- wood producer, Beyond Borders was to star Kevin Costner, but he was replaced after repeated differences between Cost- ner and then-director Oliver Stone.
