*A6 ~The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, February 9, 2000 Smoke regs assault on liberty CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD Dear Sir: 1 have been a non-smo- ker for the last 14 years but I do have sympathy for smokers, both for the strugple they will face in quitting, and for the as- sault upon their civil liber- ties, Many people believe that a business is a public place. It is not. The proper- ty is owned by a private person (or corporation) which attempts to appeal to a certain type of client. The business has a right to refuse service (or even entry) to any person which it finds objectionable. . Secondly, the WCB The Mail Bag several strategies in deal- ing with risky situations. They will either insure you if you pay an in- creased rate, they will ask you to install ventilation equipment to reduce the risk, or they will refuse to insure you at all. This in- surance company is owned tions just for fun, like ski- ing for instance. The im- portant word here is choice. When I went to the local WCB office for clar- ification, 1 was turned down when I requested a copy of the relevant regu- lation(s) but received a lengthy explanation of what they meant. I believe there is a valid constitutional chal- lenge for some lucky law- am sure that you would be outraged. As for the dangers of in- haling tobacco smoke to the employee, I have never had a job that didn’t pose immediate and life threatening dangers to my health or even my life. I chose to put my life on the by the provincial govern- ment. . Insur- ance companies will use Mike Maxim, Sometimes, I even put Terrace, B.C, myself} in dangerous Situa- NDP are ruining the province An open letter to: Premier Dan Miller Dear Sir: 1 am really p------ off with the way the NDP govern- ment has been doing things. The Nisga’a treaty is just a way to make Glen Clark look good. The way you people are handling the health and education system is an absolute disgrace. What the heck do you think you are doing with tax- payers’ money by putting on these fast ferries? As a citizen of B.C, I am in absolute disgust. I work for the government of B.C. and I really do not know what the heck you are doing with us. You, the NDP, have ruined the province of B.C, You have raped and pillaged us and still are trying to take more of us. If the people of B.C. will get off their butts and do something about what is happening to them, you will not in any stretch of the imagination win the next election. The non status people of B.C. have to realize that we are being railroaded by you and the status people into thinking that we do not have a choice in this matter, but We can help with your ballet costume Dance | ae ieee ‘Dance Jewelry. You cut out the music education in the schools but you have money to pay for the Nisga’a treaty. Isn’t it time that we called a debt paid full and we all lived as equals, the way the good Lord intended, I came from a broken home and alcoholic parents, who can I blame for that? The native people blame it on the non status people. Who do we blame it on. There comes a time in everyone’s life where we have to take responsibility for our own actions and stop blam- ing society for what we are doing. I could go back to the beginning of time and blame * Adam and Eve for what has happened in my life and even sue the government because I have been dealt a raw deal but because 1 am not a status person, I would not have a chance in hell of getting anywhere. Even the Jewish people who have really been dealt a raw deal haven’t got a snow balls chance in hell of get- ting what status people are gelting thanks to the NDP.
