Melvin Robert Henrik Hughes passed away at his homa on

March 4, 1999 after a lang

illness. He is predeceased by his

wife Henriette who passed away in July of “98 and his son
Kevin wha died in ‘83 in a swimming accident. He leaves
behind 6 surviving children; Sylvia Douglas (Grantly). John
{Laura}, Don (Cindy}, Mike [Roberta], Marlene Morgen (Bruce),
Denise (Ken Roggeman) ond & grandchildren. Nicele Sacco.
Tara Hughes, Kim, Jenny, Kelsey and Mikey Hughes, Crystal
and Jamie Morgan as well as his 2 friends Lady and Chicky.
Melvin was born on May 23, 1933 in Vancouver to Bob and

Sylvia Hughes. When ha was

11 years old the family moved to

Whitehorse. During his teenage years he raced Husky dogs

and wen many trophies and races, As ci teenager he worked

on the steamboats until he went to Tech. Schoa! in Vancouver.

The family moved lo Terrace in 1951 and he met and married

his wife Henriette deKergommeaux in 1953. He worked for

many years for Columbia Cellulose in the Nass Valley In 1972
)

Mel & Henriette decided that they'd had enaugt

country and moved to the Comox Valley where they bought the
old England Homestead on Marsden Road and have been ever

since.

Melvin was a master storyteller and laved nothing better than
a coptive audience. He loved his garden and his dogs and
being the king of his kingdom! Feod and drink were his great
pleasures. We're really goin to miss you Dad!
