The total number of fires for the year is now 157. All of these new fires were con- tained at small sizes. The total area burned in- creased by about seven hectares to 399 hectares. The fire danger rating is now high to extreme through most of the southern interior portion of the region. A camp- fire restriction has been ordered for the Kalum (Terrace), Kispiox (Hazelton), Bulkley (Smithers), Morice (Houston) and Lakes (Burns Lake) Forest Districts. Open camp- fires are prohibited ex- cept in supervised parks and campgrounds. All fire fighting resources have been placed on alert. The air tanker and initial attack crews are ready for im- mediate action. Heli- copters and other equip- ment have been put on standby. There are no project fires in the Prince Rupert Region at the moment. In the Fort St. James District, however, a provincial overhead team and 155 firefighters are battling the 400 hec- tare BOW fire.
