Lee, : Planning Officer: Re: Coguitlam River Bridge The undersigned has been brought up to date on the recent tragic drowning that took place in the Coquitlam River and on the meetings held by and consideration given by Council to constructing a pedestrian bridge across the Coquitlam River possibly in the Patricia Avenue ~ Lincoln ‘Avenue area. It. is understood that this matter will be discussed again at the regular meeting of Council to be held Monday, November 21st, 1977. While no report was specifically requested by Council, the’ Assistant City Engineer was requested to look at a.preliminary engineéring design and preliminary cost estimates ‘for such a bridge and this work has been commenced. It is also understood that requests have been made to the Armed Forces and to the Department of Highways via our M.L.A. Mr. Kerster and presumably information will be received shortly. -The matter of additional crossings of the Coquitlam River, both for vehicles and pedestrians, has been under dis-~ cussion for several years. By letter dated February 14th, 1974 (attached), the Department of Highways recommended the construction of a bridge on the Lincoln Avenue alignment and suggested that the Department would be able to particpate financially. It is the understanding of the undersigned that the Department still visualizes a Lincoln .Avenue bridge in their long term plans for the area, . ; 2 In 1973 and 1974 in conjunction with the City's Regional Town Centre Studies a pedestrian bridge was suggested across the Coquitlam River south of the Lougheed Hiyhway Bridge. The under- signed obtained a preliminary estimate of the cost of such a bridge from a firm of consulting structural engineers and subsequently it was reported to Council that the cost of such a pedestrian bridge would be between $80,000 to: $100,000. : J2reee
