Terrace resident remembered THE SON of one of Ter- race’s pioneer families . passed. away December 30, 1999 of cancer. He was 60 years old, Pierre Joseph Wilfred Normandeau (Pete} died in Vancouver while at the B.C.C.A; cancer lodge. * Pete was born Decem- ber 10, 1939 in Terrace to parents Jean Marie (John) Normandeau and Anna Desjardin. His parents had 13 children — one died at birth. Pete’s parents, John and Anna, were married in Terrace in July 1932. Anna was born March 29, 1912 in Manitoba. Her family (John Baptise and Adelaide Desjardin) moved to Terrace in 1921, John was born in Man- itoba in 1901. After travel- ling around a bit he moved to Terrace in 1929, When Pete was born on December 10, 1939, his mother had gone to Caro- line Doll’s home on Park Avenue, which is now the Park Avenue Medical Centre. - At the time, there was no hospital in Terrace so Mrs. Doll took people in her home and nursed them. Doll was a midwife and delivered many babies in Terrace, many of them still living, here, Pete Nor- mandeau was one of the babies she delivered. Pete grew up and spent most of his life in Terrace. _ He attended school at Riverside and Kalum, then on-to Skeena Junior-Senior High ‘School. Pete worked as a whis- tle punk for a short while. Later, he worked with his dad and uncle Charlie Ko- foed at bridge building for Columbia Cell, doing some heavy construction wark. Pete also worked for Doc Cartage, later owned by: Julseth Cartage, deli- © vering groceries and furni- ture to Aiyansh, Nass Camp and around Terrace. For the last couple of years, Pete worked at Vic Froese iudking a8 fy & heavy equipment driver. | — Pete was very well liked by many people who knew him. He was always. helping out whenever” someone needed’ a hand. He will be remembered by | his large family and many relatives and friends as a kind man. He loved going on picnics with his family. Pete first met his wife Dominica in 1991. They were married at. Sacred Heart Parish by father John Smith. Dominca came from the Philippines, where she was born. : She came to Canada through a friend and was introduced to Don and Ter- esita Coburn, and worked Santa’s _ report THIS YEAR, 585 children visited Santa’s headquar- ters, including visitors from. France, New Zealand, Australia, Eng- land and Scotland. ' All donations this year went to two groups: The Village of Peace, for se- nior’s housing, and the Terrace Fire Department Burn Account, to send local people to the burn unit in Vancouver, A total of $2,265 was collected. The memorial service was held at the Sacred Heart Parish January 7, 2000 ut 1:30 p.m. with Fa- ther John Smith officiating. Later, refreshments were served at the church with friends, family and the ladies from C.W.L. providing coffee and snacks.
