THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C ¢ U i C | [ FEB 19 1979 February 15, 1979 - REPORT TO: Mayor and Council ' REPORT FROM: Leisure Activities Committee ITEM NO. 1 ~ Senior Citizen's Week The Port Coquitlam Kinsmen have requested that April 23rd to April 29th, 1979 be set aside as Senior Citizen's Week. Please see attached letter. RECOMMENDATION The Leisure Activities Committee recommends that April 23rd to April 29th, 1979 be dedicated as Senior Citizen's Week. ITEM NO. 2 ~ Use of the Old Library ~ please see attached information. The Leisure Activities Committee has epent considerable time discussing the future use of the Old Library Building. We have had a couple of official requests for use of the Old Library, which are attached. These requests are from the Boy Scouts and from the New View Society. We have also had verbal requests for additional space from such groups as the Port Coquitlam Legion Band, the PoCo Bridge Club and the P.C.A.A.A. The committee is also aware that the council is in the process of considering @ presentation made by the Kinsmen Club to build a facility for the Kinsmen as well as housing other community groups. Committee has also discussed the relocation of the Recreation Department Offices. Please see report from the City Administrator. RECOMMENDATION That no action be taken on the Old Library until council has made a decision on the Proposal made by the Kinsmen Club of Port Coquitlam. ITEM NO. 3 - George Pearkes Lighted Field At the November 20th, 1978 Council Meeting, council approved, in principle, the lighting of George Pearkes all-weather field, at a cost of ¢35,000.00 (thirty-five thousand dollars) which will be taken from the Parks Reserve cont.
