B2 = Terrace Review — Wednesday, September 5, 1990 A powerlifting competition held in Terrace Aug. 26 attracted competitors from around the r region. 1. The event took place at Northwest Community College. _ Regional powerlift puts ton-plus in air They came from Terrace, Prince Rupert and Kitimat to compete August 26 in the Terrace power- lifting club’s second annual power- lift championships at Northwest Community College. When it was finished, 13 com- petitors had bench-pressed over a ton-and-a-half in weight. Terrace and Rupert each won two of the events while Kitimat took the unchallenged fifth lift. They started small with the 148- Ernie Mil-Homens bench-pressed 148 lbs., to place first ahead of Terracite Kevin Kivi at 225 Ibs. The 155-lb. class was also a one- two for Terrace athletes. Billy Tong pressed 320 Ibs, while Lane Fredericks did 290 Ibs. Prince Rupert’s Tom Brain took top honours for the 181 Ib. class. His lift was 325 lbs. Runnerup was Kitimat’s Fred Rosebush at 225 Ibs. Kitimat’s Pete Bizarro was the only entry in the 198 Ibs. class. He lifted 360 ibs. In the heaviest class (220 Ibs. .) it was Jeff Sutherland of Rupert the winner of a 420 Ibs. lift. Next was Jody Craven of Kitimat at 395 Ibs. and Robbie Long of Terrace at 360 Ibs. Scott Hamel did a squat lift of 660 Solid gold for Expose Expose started the finals witha [~ It took them eight games (four each day) to earn their way to the gold medal podium at the annual B.C. Softball intermediate *C’ mixed slo-pitch championship held at the new four-diamond complex at Surrey’s new fields on August 26 weekend. It was a long haul for All Sea- sons Expose, and the Terrace team had to come back from a first- game loss to accomplish the feat. They kicked off with a 5-3 loss to Victoria’s Ingraham Hotel, the team that won last year and had ex-Terrace players Albert and Hoily Olson in the lineup. Game two in the round-robin portion saw them down Kamloops Money Mart 8-0. Then it was a 12-0 win over Campbell River before losing 8-6 to Bayside of Parksville. This set them up with a two-and- two record, good enough to advance to the four-team double- knockout finals. Eleven teams including Burns Lake’s Nordic Ford had entered these finals. 7-3 win over China White of Richmond. Then they defeated West Rail of Richmond 4-2 in eight innings. That placed them in the championship berth as ’A’ side winners. West Rail dropped to 'B’ side where they posted a win to get another chance at Expose. A win in the next game would have given All Seasons the crown, but West Rail thumped them 10-2 to set up the clinching contest. In the title contest, Expose held on to nip West Rail 5-4 to give them a B.C. championship. Adding to the glory of the moment was the presentation of ihe tournament’s most valuable player award to Expose’ Rick Miller. Another individual honour went 10 Maryann Martens as the most inspirational player. As for Burs Lake, they won their two openers by 6-1 scores. Then they lost a tight 12-11 game to Ingraham. After that it was downhill, culminating with a 2-1 loss that placed them eighth. Stealers eliminated ‘The Terrace Northern Stealers didn’t last long at the B.C. intermediate, *C? ladies’ fastball championships at Richmond during. the Aug. 26 weekend. The ladies went down with two - straight losses at the start and wound up 13th out of 14 teams. Their losses were to Clover Collision of Surrey and Jay Lanes of ; Salmon Arm. Ibs.
