of Vancouver, has been awarded
a $4.7 million contract to provide
16.5 million feet of aluminum con.
ductor for two sections of B.C.
Hydro’s Peace River 500,000 volt
transmission line to Vancouver.

The 95-inch, aluminum clad,
steel reinforced cable will be in-
stalled along a 173-mile-long sec-
tion between Portage Mountain
Dam and Prince George, and an
82-mile-long portion between Kel-
ly Lake near Clinton, and Boston
Bar.

The line is designed to carry 12
parallel conductors, in three
bundles of four strands each.

First power from Portage Moun-
tain Dam will be carried by the
574-mile-long transmission line in
Octiber, 1968.

Another in a series of courses
in basic ‘training for skill develop-
ment will start at the British Co-
lumbiea Regional Vocational School
in Prince George on February 14,
it wea announced recently by the
Honorable L. R. Peterson, minister
of Education.

Basie training for skill! develop-
ment is an academic improvement
program for men and women
whose public school education
level is not high enough to permit
their entry into the specialized
courses available at the province's
regional vocational schools. It is
open to adults at least 18 years old
who have been out of the public
school system for at least a year.
It involves 4% months study of
applied science, mathematics and
English. Some commerce is taught
when time permits,

Mr. Peterson said the course is
particularly valuable for people
who ate precluded from many
jobs because they left school too
early and were unable to acquire
subsequent vocational training.
Those who are willing to complete
the program will be on their way
