It will be available without charge to all senior citizens whose total income for 1976 did not exceed $9,000... Thesuccess of the service in several localities last year prompted the Institute to expand it into a provincial project this year. It is designed to assist those taxpayers who may be experiencing difficulties with the preparation of their income tax returns, and who are not in a position to seek professional advice, The presence of a large number of senior citizens in Terrace indicated to the ‘local chartered accountants that the service could he of benefit to the community so they volunteered to be a part of the program, The service is organized on.an appointment basis because this will permit those who wish to have their returns prepared to arrange appointments that do not conflict with other com- mitments they may have on that date. The returns will be completed in the Senior Citizens Room at the Terrace Arena during the hours between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A telephone line in the name of the ‘Senior Citizens Tax Service’' has been established for the purpose of making appointments and the number is 635-9445. Unfortunately, individual tax problems cannot be discussed on this line. To facilitate the preparation of returns, it, -will be necessary that the taxpayers assemble all of the information relating to their income and the income .of their spouse because. ‘certain ,.. transfers - - of , exemptions require that this information, be reported.
