GVRD WASTING PUBLIC $$$ HALF BILLION $$ WATER FILTRA- TION/CHLORINE BOOSTER SYSTEM PROPOSED TO COUNTER EFFECTS OF WATERSHED LOGGIN G - Irresponsible decisions to log our drinking water supply watersheds has resulted in increased sedimenta- tion of our water Supply that not only increases the need for chlorination, but also has forced upten us the need for a filtration system estimated to cost $500 million. - The FWA, who are backing logging to protect 20 logging jobs, deny the obvious link and sedimentation, but the fact remains that the onl our access-restricted watershed is logging. causing increased sedimentation. - It is well established scientific fact that old-growth forests produce the highest quality water, and until the 1960's, Vancouver was able to brag about its continuous protected old-growth forests and the highest quality water. - Since the advent of logging, we have seen a steady decline in water quality, yet foresters who now manage the watershed (and whose jobs depend on logging) desperately claim there is no link. ~ A study done in 1991 claimed io find no conclusive link between logging and sedimentation. This Study was flawed because two of the key experts had serious conflicts of interest in favour of logging. - If we stop the logging now, we may be able to avoid the tremendous cost of filtration by allowing the damaged areas to heal and allow the remaining old-growth forest to act as the natural filters that nature made thern. THE PUBLIC DEMANDS THAT THE GVRD POLITICIANS STOP WASTING OUR MONEY. THE NEXT ELECTION WILL FOCUS ON THE TREMENDOUS. WASTE OF TAXPAYERS $$$$ - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE !! iat enema we “Tel A ae,
