THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO BeR. Kirk, DATE August ji, City Administrator FROM: ToM. Chong, Pe. Eng., FILE PWC 88/03/09 City Engineer SUBJECT: Establisnment of 4-Way Stop at Flint Street/ Cogquitiam Avenue Intersection (Public Works Committee Meeting August 9, 1988) Recommendation: That a 4-way stop intersection be established at Fiint Street and Coquitlam Avenue and that the City Clerk be instructed to amend the Traffic Regulations Bylaw to reflect this decision. Background and Comments: Council will recall! the recent fetter from Mrs. Krahenbi| requesting, amongst other things, the establishment of a 4-way stop intersection at Flint and Coquitlam. While most of the Public Works related items requested by Mrs. Krahenbil have been satisfactorily resolved, this item is still outstanding. The Committee met with Sgt. Melanson of the Ro«C.M.P. to specifically review the traffic problem at this intersection on August 9, 1988. The Committee reviewed the traffic pattern and volumes in the icinity of this intersection and agreed that a 4~-way stop regulation jis warranted. Recent traffic counts at this intersection revealed that the volume of approach trarfic at each of the four legs of this intersection is about the same (approximately 800 vehicles daily). The Committee also considered the option of barricading the ftane east of Flint Street south of Coquitlam Avenue. However, this option would virtually eliminate the needed access to the rear of the properties fronting onto Flint Street. in addition, this proposal would force some of the patrons of the Beer and Wine Store to park along Coauitlam Avenue east of Flint Street instead of the parking lot provided. This would create further aggravations for the residents along Coquitlam Avenue. This option was therefore rejected. T.M. Chong, Ps Eng, City Engineer wy + Sem
