July 25th, 1983 /156 *PW/ 10/83/07/25/40 From the City Engineer, July 12th, 1983 regarding the Kingsway Bridge Replacement. Moved by Alderman Wright: Seconded by Alderman Vater: 1. That the City accept the objective of replacing the Kingsway Bridge as soon as possible in accordance with the study done hy A.E.S.L. 2. That A.E.S.L. be hired to provide design and construction supervision services for the new bridge in accordance with fee schedules approved by the Association of Professional Engineers and that they be instructed to proceed with the design immediately. 3. That we adopt the option which provides continuous traffic flow on Kingsway as the preferred option. 4. That A.E.S.L. be instructed to proceed with an immediate study to confirm the feasibility of moving the Kingsway Bridge to the Red Bridge site, and if feasible, to estimate the cost of replacing the Bailey Bridge or alternatively paralieling the Bailey Bridge with the Kingsway Bridge. 5. That an application be made to the Minister of Highways for a grant for the full cost of the new bridge. 6. That the expected insurance proceeds of about.$300,000 be applied to the cost of moving the old bridge to the Red Bridge site, if. feasible. 7. That the District of Coquitlam be approached for cost sharing to signalize and improve the intersection of Westwood Street and Kingsway Avenue and that funds for our share of the work be placed in the 1984 Budget.
