legisiation now allows municipalities to enter. into: commercial enterprise.. Alder-
man Traboulay. also stated his view that before the: city withdraws this service to
“the ratepayers. of the. Community, a check should: he made. with. han Superintendent of
Motor Vehicles to see if there is a phasing out programe. Alderman Traboulay
then referred: to several staff members sent to Motor Vehicle Licencing: Seminars,
and queried whether this effort would all be lost by withdrawing the City's
Licencing service. Alderman Ranger pointed out that there are five agencies in
this City paying rent, business Licence fees, taxes, and providing enployment,
and. he stated his view that the city should not Bo into competition « with them.
Alderman, Laking also expressed his. Support of the reconnendation, and ‘pointed out
that there is not "sufficient space in the. city Hall or staff trained to handle
the insurance aspect, for the operation to continue, Alderman Mabbett 1 referred
to the difficulty invo ived in establishing the motor. vehicle operation in Port
Coquitlan initially, and Alderman Meyer pointed out ‘that there will still be
people who will wish to purchase their Livences and insurance from the City, ra-
ther than froa Tasurance Agencies. Alderman. Mabbett stated his view that the
City should ‘proceed in the Coming year ith the licencing operation, and then re-
; view the ‘situation at ‘the year’ 8 end. ‘Alderman Ranger stated he wished to with-
draw is original resolution and present wo ia i its place - the first dealing
with the insurance aspect - ‘and the second with licencing; hovever, the Seconder,

Alderman Laking, « was not agreeable to this proposal.
