Winter Games ~ oe story goes abroad TERRACE Local resident Betty Barton has ‘ spread news of the B.C. Winter Games to residents of a small village in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Barton is currently ‘coordinating a Canada World Youth program in an Asian community and has circulated a copy of the program which was available in Terrace dur- ing the B.C. Winter ’ Games held Feb. 27 to March 2. The Canada World Youth program is financed by the Cana- dian government and is promoted to help foster good relations between people internationally. The program also pro- vides funding for project workers to build foot paths and - bridges re- quired in the com- munities abroad. Last year Barton was employed to help village residents erect a mosque in their community. Bar- ton has been working with Canada World Youth for the past two years, After the B.C. Winter Games brochure was published and available to residents in Terrace, a copy was sent to Barton in North Sumatra and distributed among residents of the Asian town where she resides.
