Civil servant wives award OTTAWA (CP) —- Thomas Shoyama, deputy minister of finance, has been awarded $5,000 for outstanding achievement in the public service in 1978. The prime minister's office said in a statement today that Shoyama, 62, was selected for the award— presented annually under the public service's incentive award plan—by a five- _ outside the federal civil service, Members of this year's committee were: Paul Demarais, president of Power Corp, of Canada Ltd., chairman; John Bulloch, president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business; Frances Perry, af Summerside, P.E.1.; Dorothy A. Richardson, assistant director of the commission; and David Suzuki, a zoology professor at the University of British Columbia. Bulloch said today that Shoyama, a native of Karnloaps, B.C.; and deputy minister of finance since 1975, was chosen from: 30 public servants nominated from within the civil] service during the year, given names and background material on each candidate. The winner was chosen by secret ballot, he said.
