6 WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER Continued from page 5 Officers Report LADIES AUXILIARIES The officers wish to record their appreciation of the services rendered by the members of the Women’s Auxiliaries. We have noted with satis- faction the continuing assistance rendered by the various Auxiliaries to the activities of the Local Unions. We extend to the Auxiliaries our thanks for the many visits they make to our hospitalized members and for the assistance they give the Local Unions with their many problems. GREEN GOLD Because some dissatisfaction has been expressed from time to time with the coverage of our Green Gold broadcast, the Regional officers took it upon themselves to investigate the advisability of moving our broadcast from CJOR to another radio station; however, in discussing the matter with the representatives of the other stations, we found that some of them who could possibly give a broader coverage would not handle a broadcast such as ours. Some of the others who offered to take it would not give us a suitable time. The times offered to us were fringe times in the very late evening or late afternoon. Obviously these times were not suitable to our people. At the same time the prices quoted were considerably in excess of the rates presently being paid. In discussing the question of ratings, it is our information that our program receives very wide coverage, especially in the. Lower Mainland area, and we are of the opinion that we would be well advised to continue this broadcast from its present outlet in the interests of providing informa- tion to our members and the general public. CONCLUSION In conclusion, it will be noted that many of the problems which the Council has faced in the past year have not been mentioned; however, it is expected that these will be covered by the resolutions before the conven- tion. Although, as pointed out earlier in this Officers’ Report, we have not experienced the usual growth in membership, we feel that the membership has been maintained at a much higher level than expected in view of the increasing pressures of unemployment, mechanization, etc., and we feel this is due, in no small manner, to the acceptance of responsibility at all levels of the organization. And at this time the officers would like to take the opportunity to thank the members and officers of the Local Unions who have given so freely of their time and effort to assist in the operation of the Council. The officers also wish to express to the office staff appreciation for their cooperation. It is only with this type of cooperation that our organi- zation can efficiently take care of its many problems. e would particularly like to thank the members of the Executive Board, the Safety Council, the Local Unions’ officers, the Job Stewards, Grievance and Safety Committee members for the successful job they have REGIONAL SAFETY DIRECTOR JOHN T. "ATKINSON deporting his safety activities on the Green Gold radio programme. done in administering the machinery of the union and carrying out their responsibilities. We trust that the same cooperation will be tendered the officers of the Council in the ensuing year so that we may realize the objective of building a strong and more united union to continue to improve the wages, conditions and security of the membership of this union. Respectfully submitted by the Regional Officers, J. Morris, President J. A. Moore, First, Vice-President R. C. Ross, Second Vice-President J. MacKenzie, Third Vice-President F. Fieber, Secretary-Treasurer.
