RE: PORT COQUITLAM FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT - FEBRUARY 1979 Alarms Ringing School Nuisance Calls House (electrical) Chimney Fire Car Fire Grass Fires Inhalator Calls Patients Transported Firemen Attended Man Hours Firemen off sick ~ total 16 days Volunteers paged once Damages ~ Nil Alarms ringing were all in schools except two. The two in apartments were caused by persons unknown in the middle of night in each case. In the schools plus the nuisance calls were all intentional false alarms except for one. The one exception was when a smoking overheated saw set off a smoke alarm. Three separate incidents in homes caused by overheated appliance cords and faulty wiring in a fuse box. One car fire — no damage resulted from a blow back in the carburator. 49 Inhalator calls. 26 home emergencies consisting of strokes, heart attacks,, domestic quarrels, convulsions, emphysema, seizure, and falls causing cuts and injuries. Attended 3 industrial accidents, two resulting in loss of life. One died from an explosion, the other fell about 45 feet through a roof. Two injuries resulted from a collision of two C.P.R. locomotives. Eleven motor vehicle accidents, four people hit by cars, two recreation accidents, two overdoses and one murder.
