March 17th, 1980. /13. NEW BUSINESS: Alderman Ranger spoke regarding rental of the Mabbett Room for the summer months as he has been advised there is a shortage of space available resulting from the burning of the Carnoustie Golf Club. The Parks & Recreation Committee agreed to examine the policy in this regard. Alderman Ranger commented on the By~law Inspection Officer's report referring to charges laid against Starliner Transport Ltd. and discussion then ensued on the advisability of dropping those charges. Alderman Keryluk advised Mayor Laking, Aldermen Gates, Wright and Keryluk attended the Winter Carnival Queens Ball and stated they had a good time and that Laurie McEachern was selected Queen. Alderman Traboulay asked Alderman Ranger if he would be running in the next Municipal Election and Alderman Ranger stated he would not be and Alderman Traboulay asked that he reconsider such decision. Alderman Mabbett spoke regarding possible funding available in the Provincial Budget for downtown redevelopment and Mayor Laking advised he will look into this when he is in Victoria. Alderman Wright advised the Port Coquitlam Women's Centre has applied to join the United Way. Alderman Wright advised there is a meeting of the Fraser Valley Regional Library Union and Management on March 18th, 1980 and there could be a possible strike at the libraries. Alderman Keryluk expressed concern regarding parking on Donald Street and asked that the R.C.M.P. be asked to watch this area closely. Mayor Laking asked Fire Chief Wingrove to give a report on the accident in the C.P.R. Yards and Mr. Wingrove stated the accident oecurred on March 14th, 1980 at 6:00 p.m. between a dynamite car and a propane ! car with approximately $100.00 damage. Mayor Laking advised he contacted the C.P.R. and the C.P.R. feels tt was only a minor aceldent. Alderman Keryluk expressed his concern and stated he wants a report From the C.P.R. on how Lt happened and what precautions will be taken fn the future. Alderman Mabbett suggested Counell meet with top of fictals the C.P.R., perhaps in camera, and Council generally agreed to this procedure.
