THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C 0 Uy N C [ MEMORANDUM SEP 2 4 1979 TO: Mayor and Council September 19th, 1979 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held Tuesday, September 18th, 1979. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman P.F. Ranger, Chairman Alderman J.J. Keryluk F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer Mir. Glen McKone of Metro Motors (for Item I) George Ulmer (part of meeting): ; ITEM I Re: Parking Problems at Metro Motors Mr. Glen McKone of Metro Motors was present on the invitation of thé Committee to discuss parking problems on Hastings Street in the vicinity of Metro Motors. Mr. McKone stated that he had used calcium chloride on the unopened section. of Salisbury Avenue which he is using for parking and this had alleviated the dust problem. He also stated that he would ensure that his employees did not park in the vicinity of the fire hydrant. Council had previously agreed to the replacement of the angle parking on Hastings Street with parallel parking adjacent to Metro Motors. This had not yet been implemented pending a discussion with Mr. McKone. Mr. McKone stated that there was a wide shoulder on the east side of Hastings Street which presently was designated a "No Parking" zone. If this could be replaced with a parallel parking zone, then it would not be a great hardship to have the west side become parallel parking. The Committee could not see any objection to having parallel parking on both sides of the street and therefore the Committee reconmends that the east side of Hastings Street adjacent to the Department of Highways Works Yard be changed from a "No Parking" zone to a parallel parking only zone in conjunction with the implementation of parallel parking on the west side of Hastings Street. The Committee also recom- mends that the sale or lease of the portion of Salisbury Avenue between Hastings Street and Maple Creek be referred to the Land Sales Committee as Metro Motors has expressed an interest in acquiring this.
