INTER OFFICE MEMO Mayor & Aldermen FROM: R.A. Freeman, City Clerk c.c. Re: Taxi & Taxi Driver Regulation By-law A photostat of the above-noted By-law as originally presented to the Council on November 22nd, 1971 is attached. At that time the Council ordered that a review of the By-law be made with a view to inserting therein provisions that would require a taxi operator in the City to provide a local office and service facilities which, we presume, would include an adequate waiting room for the public. It was drawn to our attention that the City of North Vancouver has such provi-- sions in their Taxi By-law and accordingly we obtained a copy of North Vancouver City's By-law and it requires every person to whom a license has been granted to keep "sab premises" and cab premises are defined as “an established place of business in the Commercial or Industrial zones of the City with telephone and off-street parking facil- ities from which any cab is operated or in which orders for hire are received or dis- patched.". There does not appear to be a requirement for a public waiting roon, although this may, of course, be provided voluntarily by the operators. - May we please have the Council's instructions as to whether or not a clause should be inserted in the attached draft By-law requiring the provision of office facilities by a taxi operator in the City and, specifically, are the office facilities to inelude: 1,
