Coralie has rélaimmed from Europe where F

she assisted her husband on a Langara
student external studies trip. To Lea
Price we are grateful for her capable and
food-natured managing of the shop in
Coralie’s absence. The Gallery will be
open regular hours of 10:30 bo 5:20,
Tuesday through Sunday, with the ex-
ception that it will alsa be open on

Thanks to Gordon Hutchens for the
following comments on his recent fea-
ture show in the Gallery.

The earthenware pieces in the shea were
examples of some of the tests [ue been
dedrug ower the bast feu years drt bou-fire
reduction glazes. These pieces were fired
betineen Cone 04 and Cone 01, some in
reduction on the way up, athers reduced
while the kiln was cooling. The colors
wene surprisingly different depending on
Loken Chey were reduced. I fourwl that f
could produce depth ane richness wsu-
ally associated with high fire glazes, but
with different color responses die to the
lower temperature. On some of the pieces
i used overlapping layers of different
topper red glazes, and perhaps a brush
stroke ofa silver nitrate glaze. One of the
combinations [ found mast interesting
used layers of glazes cortrining rutile,
nopper or manganese with weox nests
over a silver nitrate base glaze,

Tue been testing out several white and
buff earthertucare bodies fiieced with tale
and iwollastonifte and sometimes a little
rit. Some of the bodies treclucle C-1 clay.
awhite burming clay with a relatively low
witrifieation potrit ane wer, uriusiuel uerk-
fry qyeiclities.

Salt glazed teqpat

Th: salt-qglozed pieces included some in
porcelain where [ covered the piece in
copper slip then brushed thick ocean
lai strokes of porcelain slip over, Be-
couse of the addition ef calciiem carben-
ate ta the porcelain slip, it gave the salt a
more mothe surface, and took ona nice
pink blush from the copper below. These
Tfanned lightly while they were coling.

the Gallery when Coralle was away.
Bink was in seventh heaven, knowing
she'd be pampered by all for doing tricks,
She did have a lot of responsibility.
