Safer sex prom

THE CAPED
CRUSADERS who
swooped through hallways
and classrooms yesterday at
Northwest Community Col-
lege will be back next Mon-

money. Instead they were
handing out safe sex kits.
And they’re spreading

NWCC campuses over the
next few weeks,

“They're handing out
condoms, information about
aids, homophobia, sexual
assault, acquaintance sexual
assault... information cover-
ing a wide range of issues,’’
Says safer campuses coor-
dinator Melissa Munn.

Called ‘‘Sexposed at
NWCC’ the campaign is
part of a larger two-year ef-
fort to make post-secondary
campuses safer for all stu-
dents,

“It’s a fun way to raise
awareness,”’ says Munn,

She'll be one of the
crusaders, swooping
through classrooms, Staff
and students have also
Volunicered to take the role
of crusaders.

Munn says she has ap-
proximately 500 safety kilts
to band out. If the campaign
is successful, she thinks
they'll repeat it again during
orientation week, with as
many as 1,500 kits,

Money for this project
comes from the provincial
government. They've given
every post-secondary _ in-
stitution around the pro-
vince a total of $55,000 over
two fiscal years to promote
safer campuses. Munn's
salary comes out of part of
that money.

Other safer campuses
projects at NWCC are a
self-defence workshop for
womea, a monthly newslet- ne
ter, and workshops on
racism, harassment and gen-
der issues. Munn also
organized a recent NWCC
