Terrace Review — Wednesday, May 22,1991 Al5S WANTED: Landmark restaurant re-opens A a le eee oa Last November, fire destroyed the roof of the Bavarian Inn and extensively damaged the interior of the well-known Lakelse Ave. res- taurant. Owner Gus Gerdei announced optimistically in an interview with the Terrace Review, "The new restaurant will be better and brighter, with the same high standards of service, cuisine and atmosphere". Monday the Bavarian Inn re-opened its doors and Ger- ' dei’s promise has been fulfilled. The whole building has been re- furbished from the ground up. The Back Eddy Pub, on: the ground floor, has been open for a few weeks now, to rave reviews. The decor is up-to-the-minute, with brass and glass, copper tinning on the bars, multi-level seating and plenty of natural light through glass doors which form the front wall of the building. The food is delectable with daily specials pro- minently displayed on a blackboard Upstairs, walls have been removed, plastered or wallpapered, and windows enlarged to provide a view of the surrounding scenery and an airy feeling to the dining room. The banquet room can be secluded by closing French glass doors. Seating is on two levels. Gus has hung up his contractor’s hat and he and Heli are back on the job as maiir d’s. Happily, the familiar faces and superb service Movie glitz hits Stewart Amid persistent rumours that there have been some big names from the movie and television industry in Terrace over the past: week, a confirmed fact has emerged. There is a portion of a new film being shot in the Stewart-Hyder area. Ian McLeod at Stewart’s King Edward Hotel! said last week Uni- versal Studios will set up for five days at the end of May in Hyder to shoot a segment of a production called Leaving Normal, a movie about Alaska in the 1940’s. Some of the background shots are being taken in Stewart, he said. Actress Meg Tilley is cast in the lead role. McLeod says he expects about 100 people, including local extras, to be involved in the project. of staff members Lynn, Greg and Mark are also on the job again.
