One-third of B.C.'s perfect games bowled at Terrace THERE WERE SIX PERFECT GAMES bowled in league and tournament play in B.C. during this year’s season, and two of them were racked up at Terrace Lanes. Greg Saunders broke a 12-year drought Dec. 12 when he rolled a 450 during a Wednesday night match play league session, and Larry Lopyshinsky whipped out 13 con- secutive strikes Jan. 23 in a game with the same league. Both players received gifts from sponsors that included clothing, plaques, trophies, gift certificates and cash. Three other local bowlers have Lanes scored games over the 400 mark this season. They are: John Rasmussen — Nov. 14, 401 and Jan. 31, 431. . Rene Mailloux — Dec. 10, 401. Sherry Lopyshinsky — Dec. 18, Larry Lopyshinsky rolled a 408 on Dec. 1. The Clan improved their overall record to 22-3 and 12-0 in District One... The Clan clinched an early playoff berth with a victory over the University of Puget Sound 109-47. A total team effort was put forth by coach Allison McNeill’s squad as 11 out of 12 players scored with sophomore Emily Wetzel leading the way with a game high of 26 points and a near perfect effort from the field (12 of 13). They say of- fense is the best defense and that is exactly what happened as the Clan held the Loggers to only 12 points in the first half and led 56-12. Terrace’s Michelle Hendry played only 18 minutes against U.P.S., but. still managed 21 points and four rebounds. ‘ve always known that if we all played together we could do this kind of damage,”’ states McNeill. ‘Our bench strength (against U.P.S.} was phenom- enal.”’ The 62-point scoring margin against U.P.S. was the second largest of the season for the Clan, The largest spread is 64 points, posted against the Sheldon Jackson College Seals (Sitka; Alaska) on Jan. 6 as the Clan won 111-47. The Clan’s offense moved up a notch to 82.0 points per game, an average of six points higher than second-ranked Seattle University’s offense. Defensive- ly, the Clan also improved, as they sit third in District I, allow- ing 60.1 points per game. The Clan maintain the highest scor- ing margin in the District with a 21.9 positive difference. Hendry continues to stay ona record-setting pace as she threat- ens to break her own record for season scoring average (24.4 — 1989/90) and field goal percent- age (63.1 percent — 1989/90). So far this season Hendry is averaging a league-leading 24.8 points per game and. .686 per- centage from the field. Hendry had 47 points in the last two games, going 19 of 25 from the field and nine of 11 at the line. Hendry now has 2,159 career points, 198 points away from Simon Fraser’s record holder Gail Klaver (2,357 — 1973/78). Junior point guard Andrea Schnider has also put up im- pressive numbers this season with a league leading 7.5 assists per game average. Schnider also leads the Clan in three point per- centage (44.9) and free throw percentage (83.9). Schnider set a Simon Fraser University record for steals in a game with nine against St. Martin’s College on Jan. 30 and needs only 31 assists to break her own SFU record of season assists (210). On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Hendry paced the Clan to a win over their closest District One rival — Western Washington Vikings. The score was 70-52. The six- foot-two junior forward pumped up 28 points, and brought down eight rebounds in 40 mnutes of action. Most swimmers improved upon their times and some pool records were broken. Marina Checkley set a new mark in the 50 free with a 38.51, while teammate Garth Coxford broke five pool records in 50 fly, 50 free, 100 breast, 50 back and 200 free. All in all, the Blue- backs have a great set of young- er swimmers who will provide strength to the overall program! The next few weeks are also busy for the Bluebacks. Four swimmers will be travelling to the junior provincial champion- ships in Surrey on Feb, 22, 23, and: 24. On March 8, 9, and 10 the . provincial championships will be held in Prince George.
