That all 20 m.p.h. school zone speed designations in the City be
retained;
AND THAT Birchland Elementary School be so posted, on Fraser Avenue

from Kilmer Street to the lane West of Kilmer Street. Carried.
Alderman Keryluk voted against the resolution.

Prior to passage of the. foregoing resolution, Alderman Ranger
pointed out that there is a close concentration of children in schools
and they should be afforded some protection. Alderman Thompson made the
observation that no complaints have been received from parents or the
police with respect to the existing 20 m.p.h. school zone designations,
anc queried what would be gained and for whom by changing them. Mayor
Campbell stated he felt children are over-protected and pointed out that
they have to survive in areas designated for 30 m.p.h. when they leave
the school zones; however, members of Council generally were in favour

of retaining the 20 m.p.h. school zone designation, and it was also

agreed that the motion include instructions that Birchland Elementary

School be so posted.

City Clerk re From the City Clerk, October 26th, 1976, advising that during the
telease of R/W
vourse of a subdivision in the West Coquitlam River area, a right-of-way
was obtained along the boundaries of Lots 270 and 271; however, when the
water pipe was actually laid in the ground it was realized Lot 270 was
not involved, and while a new right-of-way plan and agreement are being
processed to cover the correct location of the water pipe, it is necessary
to receive Council's approval for release of the right-of-way previously

obtained.

is hereby released by The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam;
