May 22, 1975, REPORT TO COUNCIL ‘TO: '. MAYOR AND COUNCIL Bi seek yaa ess sere optes FROM: LEISURE ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE ITEM I: LOCATION OF FUTURE TENNIS COURTS ... ,. The committee has investigated three possible areas for the location of neighbourhood tennis courts. 1, Mary Hill Area - . _Mr. Pollock has indicated that, regarding the 2.38 acres being dedicated by Mutual Development for a park on Eastern Drive (although the ‘legal work in connection with the subdivision has been completed ) the City is unable to register the land due to the fact that a lien has just been filed against the property. Therefore, there could be a possible delay. of two months on this property. 2. Sun Valley Park - ; As. indicated by the attached map er Sun Valley Park, neighbour- hood courts would not be conducive due to cvercrowding of facilities and further, losing the aspect of open space. It shovld be noted that the underwater sprinkling system would have to be removed in order to build the courts. Finally, this area has some recreation facilities and developed parks, : 3. Westwood Park ~ - Committee feels that this park should have neighbourhood tennis courts. The Westwood area is void of developed park and recreation facilities (as indicated on attached map). Further, the Kinsmen are looking at this park as a possible arza for a Kin Adventure Playground. Recommendation: The Leisure Activities Committee recommends that the neighbour- hood tennis courts be built in Westwood Park and that the plans be drawn up immediately in order that work can commence as quickly as possible.
