Guild News The Annual General Meeting has been set for 7 pm on Friday, May Ist. The location is yet to be determined. The Guild is currently providing Robert Kell (the chartered accountant again engaged by us to conduct our year-end review) with all the documenracion he requires to prepare his statements, Guild members will receive a condensed version of the year-end financial statements, as prepared by Mr. Kell, and the Annual Report prior to the AGM. Once the financial statements are complere, any member wishing co have che fully expanded version may pick one up from the Guild office at any ame. On the subject of the AGM ,six members of the board of directors will be stepping down in May of this year. A nominations committee will be struck at the February 26th board meeting and they may be contacting you! Please give consideration to joining the board and bringing to ic your own enchusiasm and experience. Thank you, Adter the extension announced in last month's newsletter, quite a few more submissions came in for Clery 98'SOur Finest Work, an exhibition of Guild members’ work to be held at the Community Arts Council of Vancouver Gallery ac 837 Davie St. from March 24 - April 18. The slidesphotos are being juried as ] write chis and juried artists may even have been notified by the time this newsletter arrives. The invitation for the exhiber should be ready by early March -all participating artists will be sent some. The opening reception has been scheduled for Friday, March 27, 7- 10pm. "Clay Week" continues as this is the week of two lectures and Lottery for Powtery at the Roundhouse Community Centre on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nighrs respectively (see page 3 for more detail)! Made of Clay, the Sth Annual Pottery Sale event held at the Performance Works building on Granville Island from May 1-3 | still has a few booths available. Cost is $450/booth (10' x 10") for a maximum of two people and includes pipe and drapes. Participants are responsible for their own sales and wrapping, although there will be a central visa/mastercard/debit machine attended to by Gallery staff. There will be a charge of 3% per cranaaction to use this For those already regiscered, February came and went without the info packages being sent our. Don’t worry, they will be on che way shortly! The Greg Payce workshop is underway this weekend (Feb. 21-22). Twenty people were registered two days prior oo the workshop, with a few last minute registrations expected. As this workshop wes co-sponsored with Emily Carr Insticure of Art & Design, ECLAD students were able to attend the workshop free of charge. Gallery News Judy Weeden's exhibit About Jouwmeys, January 31 - February 26, had a very successful opening at the Gallery on the 31st, contributing significantly to a positive start to the year’s monthly sales totals, As always, Judy's detailed decoration was well appreciated by the public. To encourage greaver ineeraction beeween the artist and the public the Gallery now holds all openings on Saturday afternoons. The March exhiba celebrating spring, a non-juried Guild members show of flower vases and planters, has created much interest among the Guild membership. On Saturday, April 4th, the opening for Kathryn Young's recenc work will be held from 2 - page & Thank you for your responses to the call tor Feature Artist of the Month spaces (a monthly display in the Gallery which is epen on a first-come, first-served basis to any member who has noe been juried into the Gallery, giving a chance for all members to display their work for sale). February featured Elaine Hughes-Games of the Okanagan. Her wine country inssered decoration of grape vines on a truly white majolica created a nice, fresh display. In March the Gallery looks forward to the work of Mare Lemieux of Vancouver, and coming up in April we will have che work of Gertruda Parson on display. The April 15 deadline for Gallery jurying 6 approaching, so here is a condensed version of the Jury Submission Guidelines available at the Gallery or by calling 604 / 669 - 5645, Jury Submission Guidelines: Deadlines - Apnl 15 & October 15 Submission to include: 1) six pieces of work representative of the range of work to be sold in che Gallery (keep in mind thar the jury looks far consistency of aryle and technique rather than a sample of all your different types of work. Presence a focused submission indicative of the work you intend to supply to the Gallery on an ongoing basis). 2) typed artist statement and resume or c.v. 3) a non-refundable jury fee of $25 + $1.75 GST = $26.75. The jury will endeavour to meet within Z weeks of the deadline. A written critique will not be provided, bur che Gallery Manager can provide you with verbal feedback on behalf of the jury. The jury will look at documents supporting an individual's submission, but jurors and jurees identities remain confidencial. $0.
