because of forest lands —

Dear Sir;

By now most people are
convinced that Orenda’s pro-
posed mill will be among the
cleanest in the province. This
mill is a welcome precedent
in pulpmill technology, and
one which will provide. a
boost to our local economy.

There is one troubling

aspect of the mill, however,
which should interest those
who are concerned with sus-
taining the health of our
forest-based economy, and
our environment,

Although Orenda publiciz-
ed this pulpmill as fitting into
a “sustainable development
initiative,’ the location of

the mill falls short of this ob-
jective, It is a sad irony thata
forest-dependent industry is
going to alienate the land
base on which our future
forests are grown.

Whatis at issue here is that
the DuBose area is highly
productive forest growing

not give us the sexual and
drug histories of the con-

these regional services. be
transferred to our respective
communities in order to relieve
the burden on Terrace.

Heck, we can use the jobs
that they bring anyway. And,
hey, what are good neighbours
for?

Come on Mayor Talstra, do
the right thing and send those
tax-draining regional] services
packing. I am sure that Prince
Rupert will welcome them back
with open arms. For the sake of
Terrace taxpayers, of course.

development up and down
the corridor.

of the most productive and
the second largest coastal

What we as a community
need now is to develop a
long-term strategy for logical

and sustainable land use that

identifies where we can best
locate: industrial and other
development,

ment in the middle of our
most valuable forest lands.
