ait eal , Letter — ‘Statement questioned To the editor, - The master of elastic truth is now concerned ‘ about elastic leadership. Earlier this year, the Honourable Member for Skeena was rebuked in the Legislature for at- tempting to mislead the Speaker. He is now either misinformed or at- .tempting to mislead your. readers. In your Aug. 13 edition, the Honourable member stated that a referendum was held on Sunday Shopping, using that statement to talk about elasticity of leadership. I submit that state- ment is absolutely false,” Council did not hold a referendum on Sunday Shopping. The legisla- tion governing Sunday Shopping was, as the Honourable Member well knows, provincial and federal, not municipal. We did hold an. opinion poll, and ‘made the results known to the companies con- cerned, but there was no referendum. Sherry Halfyard photo Member's Message Frank Howard, New Democratic Forestry Spokesman, has urged Premier Vander Zalm to make immediate representations to the federal government tc reconfirm our position that lumber must remain as a free trade commodity with the United States. Howard said, ‘“‘With the change in the provincial cabinet we must move quickly to assure the federal government that our position on free trade for lumber has not also changed.’’ “We need to make doubly sure that there is no lack of understanding on the part of the federal govern- ment both so it will know and so it can re-iterate that position to the United States if the question arises.” ‘“‘We know that United States officials are making sounds as if they want to dilute their earlier tough line. What we don’t know is whether this is rhetoric for the coming November mid-term elections or whether it is serious. In any event our position must remain firm and Premier Vander Zalm should so communicate with the federal government. The sub- ject matter is too important to be left to chance.’’ ak] Frank Howard, MLA for Skeena, said that Premier Vander Zalm has posed problems for the North with his Cabinet changes. Howard said, ‘We deserve better treatment and consideration than Premier Vander Zalm has just visited upon us.’ He has placed less importance on the North by assigning to -us only one Cabinet posi- tion. At the moment of his selection as Premier we had two Cabinet positions and now we have one. That doesn’t bode well for us in terms of being on the inside and getting the full consideration that we deserve from the Provincial Government. ‘Mir. Vander Zalm placed three Socred back- benchers in his Cabinet and all of them are from the Vancouver area, two from Surrey and one from North Vancouver. His Cabinet is not a Cabinet of. northern orientation. It tends to show that the Social Credit hierarchy and power brokers look upon the North as simply providing an economic base for the lower mainland to draw upon and live off.’’ ‘While it is true Mr. Vander Zalm said he will run in a by-election in Peace River South that, even if he is elected there as an MLA, will only be temporary.” He lives in the lower mainland and with the heavy thought brave because they |* lower mainland weighting of his Government will un- doubtedly favor the lower mainland to the detrimen of the North, Howard said. | Commentary To the editor, _ Anti-Nukes still rant about a nuclear armageddon, blaming Reagan, Falwell, Lindsey for nonsense they do not preach.. I recently heard one secular humanist say: ‘‘Nuke a whale for Christ,’”’ and I wondered why the Creator of the heavens and the earth would want to nuke his own creation. Another humanist piped up, ‘‘Nuke a born again Christian and save the whales!”’ I felt like a Jew in Hitler’s bunker. -Let’s look at contemporary Fundamentalist theology. Biblical armageddon results from the Anti- christ setting up house in the Holy of Holies of Ezekiel’s temple in Jerusalem. Revelation says that the Jews will be expelled from the land for three and a half years — whether by the PLO or some other group is not known. They are driven down to Egypt to be sold as slaves, but the Egyptians protect them. They are forced to flee every country in the world and are brought into Egypt in the ships of Tarshish. But at God’s com- mand they reclaim the land; triggering the Magog (Russian) invasion during which the enemy is destroyed and the final seven year countdown begins. So as long as there is no temple and no Antichrist, there can be no armageddon. Jesus reveals the character of the Antichrist in Matthew 24:48-51. Prophecy preachers like Lindsey have made big stuff out of Israel’s return to the land in 1948. Very soon prophecy preachers will have rot- ten eggs thrown at them, because an unbelieving world and an unbelieving Church does not want to believe the Word of God. . Scripture says that when Jews are kicked out of the land this ex-Christian Antichrist will say, ‘‘My Lord delayeth His coming,’’ and shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the ‘drunken. . What triggers armageddon is simply that when An- tichrist sets himself up as God in the temple, Jesus has no choice but to declare war on him. As every Spirit-filled Christian knows, Satan cannot reside in the temple of the Lord; and Ezekiel’s temple is the only Jewish temple Christ claims as his own, Even the Jews know that much — Psalm 68:29, Christians need to remind the world that Biblical prophecy, as outlined by Falwell and Lindsey, cannot come to pass unless there is complete nuclear disarm- ament. It is Satan’s job to destroy humanity — it is the Church’s job to oppose that destruction, whether by the U.S. or the U.S.S.R. The Church has no business playing Socred and NDP — Psalm 68, which speaks of our time says, we are to scatter peo- ple who delight in war. The throne of Satan was dug up by Hitler’s ar- cheologists at Pergamos and taken to Berlin, where it is still recorded as a tourist attraction during the War. Richard Wurmbrand noted in the mid-70s that the Soviet army liberated it from the Raiders of the Lost Altar (the movie is based on these events); and it is now kept in Moscow. Both Hitler and Karl Marx were members of Satanist organizations. In 1945 Stalin revived the an- cient Roman Empire of Western Europe at Malta, when he claimed the spoils of the War — East Ger- many, Poland, etc. The boundary that separates East from West is the very same boundary of the old Roman Empire. Prophecy says that the Antichrist will lead Western Europe against communism as the head of a revived Roman Empire, thanks to Stalin. The Nazis and the Soviets only thought they were enemies — World War II was designed to prelude something much bigger. Let us look at the shape of the nuclear world. Pres- ent nuclear warmongers are the U.S., the U.S.S.R., the U.K., China, India, France. Suspected players ‘are Israel and South Africa for obvious reasons. Ex- pected players include South Korea, Taiwan, Argen- tina, Brazil, Pakistan, Iraq (Babylon of old), Iran, Libya. This trend must totally be reversed before prophecy can be fulfilled, according to current theology. Anyone who says differently is just ex- pressing ignorance in Fundamentalism. continued on page 5 ers en oj ee i > iq 1 i i
