Gordon — back again in the
Cabinet in an encore of trou-
ble — exerts over Prime Minis-
ter Pearson? “

How is it that Walter Gordon,
that star-crossed politician with
his seemingly built-in talent for
Parliamentary disaster, ean re-
enter the charmed inner circle
of Federal power and rank fifth
in the ministerial pecking order
behind the Prime Minister,
junior only to Paul Martin,
Robert Winters, Jack. Pickers-
gill and Paul Hellyer?... . . -

Two reasons:

1. The, deep feeling of per-
sonal loyalty and an obligation
of gratitude the Prime Minister

2. His unquestioned rule over
the Liberal Left in his own

these two seemingly unbreak-
able links between the Prime
Minister and his- “Cabinet Cal-
amity” best may be assessed

of Walter Gordon's errors,

it amounted to not-to-be-denied
insistence — to the Prime Min-
