News from parents committees

Coquitlam
The school board has refused a stand alone school for
Programme cadre and the parents have decided to appeal
the decision. Wait and see! The children enjoyed a sport
event and visited Gastown and Science World.

Po ive
The talk of the town is the project of a Centre scolaire
communautaire and the Parents Committee met for the
planning of next school year activities. Parents and
children had a picnic for the end of the school year. The
children also went to La féte colombienne des enfants. The
youngest from Grade 3 and 4 will go to Keits Island.

Vancouver
L’Ecole Anne Hébert had a rewarding casino which will
enable the management to carry on with its projects on
quality of education. Parents and children liked very much
the play by AUBE theater of Victoria. The children went
to La féte colombienne des enfants.

Our congratulations go to Héléne Couassi, pupil in Grade
6 who participated to the Pierre Gérin-Lajoie dictation and
won first place for Western Canada.

Whistler
Myrtle Philip Programme cadre organized a mini-carnaval
and children and parents alike had a lot of fun. Also on the
program for this family gathering were a potluck and
games.

Sunshine Coast
Jointly parents and teachers are organizing a picnic for the
end of the school year. The Parents Committee who paid
for an auxiliary teacher last year will apply again this year
to obtain one through the school board.

North Vancouver
Each time they meet, members of the Parents Committee
invite a speaker who comes and talk on different aspects of
education. It is very beneficial and very appreciated by the
parents. A BBQis organized for June 28 last day of school.
Grade 7 pupils spent a week at Strathcona on Vancouver
Island.

A young girl (we do not know from which Grade or her
name) won a Gold Medal in badminton during Les Jeux
francophones _in Kamloops. We heard that she was very
proud. So are we! Congratulations!

Kaslo

Recruiting is slow but it works.

An information session is planned for June 12 in the
afternoon.

Kelowna
The Parents Committee is very actively looking for funding
to organize the Francofolies 1995. A new preschool will
open its doors in September: Le petit ourson. A third class
should openin September, 51 children are already enrolled
in intermediate for September.

Summerland
Secondary pupils participated to Les jeux francophones in
Kamloops and enjoyed it very much. A summer camp is
planned for two days with pupils from intermediate.

Are we going to see in Terrace the same developments we
see in Mission? Parents are doubling their efforts to get
there. We are behind you. Good luck!

Nechako
Vanderhoof is planning recruiting for September. Carry
on!

Prince George

The Parents Committee is working on its planning for next
year. They want to be ready for September.

Congratulations to Grade 12 Erin Mahaffey who received
a grant from the Prince George Parents Committee.

Prince Rupert
The children are on holiday and the parents are planning
next year. Do not forget to get some rest.

Abbotsford
To offer the best quality of education next year, parents are
already looking into the finances. Parents want also to
write a constitution.

Few children have participated and had a good time at Les
jeux francophones in Kamloops. Write on your calendar
June 24 St-Jean, there will be a picnic.
