Niether the GVRD nor the B.C. Hazardous Waste Management Corporation will be coordinating a Household Hazardous Waste pickup program in 1992. Since there is no coordination effort available through the Provincial Government or GVRD and Municipalities are left on their own to institute their own programs. In this regard, we have been dealing with Leslie Jones of Laidlaw with the possibility of setting up our own household hazardous waste collection day with Coquitlam, Port Moody, and possibly some other adjoining Municipalities. Leslie Jones is taking the lead role in initially contacting all the Municipalities and acting as Co-ordinator, and she attended the EPC meeting on January 29, 1992 to outline her plans and to seek support. We have allowed $15,000 in our 1992 budget and at this point it still appears to be an appropriate amount for a one day participation. EPC has discussed this matter on two previous occasions, but has not arrived at any decision. In order to assist in this matter, we are currently researching other Municipalities including Victoria which has recently instituted a one can garbage limit, and will have a report available for EPC by mid February, 1992. It is anticipated that we will be recommending a two can limit with a complete ban on additional bulky items. Residents will be encouraged to recycle additional garbage and dispose of bulky items at recycling plants, etc. C.F. (Kip) Gaudry, P, Eng. Deputy City Engineer CFG: gc Attachment ce: LR. Zahynacz, P.
