NEW BUSINESS;

Alderman Keryluk advised he enjoyed the Federation of Canadian
Municipalities Conference held in Halifax and gave a report on the
conference.

Alderman Ranger referred to the Coal fFlelds debate regarding, using
the gas tax to pay for development of the coal Fields and commented
regarding the effeet on Municipal grants. Mayor Laking advised he has
discussed this with the Union of British Columbia Municipalities and stated
they have been assured by the Province that there will be no change
in Muniedpal grants,

Alderman Ranger referred to the B.G. Hydro Transit tax and stated
the Gulf Tslands advised they wili not participate in the transit gas tax
program and commented that the people in the rest of the Province finance
the ferries for their use as they pay the ferry rates but the Gulf
Island residents travel free. Mayor Laking advised he will fnvestigace
the possibility of discussing this at the Lower Maditand tundeipal
Association meeting this week,

Alderman Wrdgnt asked regarding continuing membership in the Federation
of Canadian Muntietpalitdes and Mayor Loking advised hie would recommend
eontinulng for ak Teast anether year,

Alderman Mabbett expressed concern regarding the number of complaints
received of dogs running at Jarge.

dogs running at large and request that an extra patrol he used,

Alderman Traboulay referred to Mr. BK. Ballantyne'ts revent letter

regarding commuter rail service that was referred to the Community Development

Committee,
