Direct telephone Line $ 34.55 per month Encrgency ‘phone . : 20.00 per month ) Total ~~=8 -... $309.40 per month Some of the lense lines presently in effect vould he abandoned, therefore, the net cost of monthly telephone Mine rentals would be loss than that quoted above. Bared on the proposed forruls ent quoted casts. our budget for 1972 would be: Share of salary costs $9,451.00 ronthly Telephone line rentals, ete. full year 1,322.00 Total ~~---.-.- $.91953 .00 This is considerably better than financing our own dispatching service at $35,000.00 plus telephone line rentals, ete, It should be pointed ovt also that the District will also continue to provide the regular public works type emergency calls in their service, anyone ‘phoning the City Ball after houre will be given the District's hon-ewergency pumber and the District will have ‘phone numbers for City employces on stand-by or the foreman or whatever is necessary, These calls are presently handled hy our K.C.N.P. office, Another alternative would be to establish our own dispatching service. One thing that will occur when the police move out of the City Hell is that the building will be entirely unprotected from a point of view of night security, We datend to wodify the downstairs windows of the building and instal 4 burglar alarm system which will be tied into the Justice Building, however, B4111 Wingrove has suggested that 4 dispatching service for the Fire Department would not ‘necessarily have to he located at the Firehall. It should be noted that it ig not a practical solution to try and solve the problem by having the firemen do their’own dispatching. At the present time with 2 men on shift, both respond to the call and leave the firchall unmanned. The police office dispatcher covers any further calls that may come in, and ean call for back up should the f4renen need additional help or a doctor, R.C.M.P., etc. Adding {firemen to cover this would only result in providing high paid dispatching. If we were to establish our own service it could be located in the City Hall and, therefore, cover both arcas that ds, the dispatching plus night security, Another dis- advantage of going with the District of Coquitlam is that we leose direct radio eontact with our Public Works Department and Public Works vehicles. At the present time the Public Works and Fire vehicles operate on the same radio frequency and it is an advantage particularly 4s our sewer pumping stations are tied into an alarm “panel at the Tirchall, Radia contact can be easily naintained between the men in the field and the Fireball when problems arise. If we maintain our own dispatch Service, we could continue this radio contact,
