_A6- The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, May 28, 2003 Never ending tax hikes hurting ordinary people An open letter to: Roger Harris, MLA, Skeena Dear Sir: I was brought up in the fashion that when times are tight, I could escape the cash outflow by being less frivolous. In time my funds would . regenerate and I would be able to loosen up, purchase -de- sired items and invest. IE was able to do this be- cause commodities were relatively low and services which I paid taxes for were free. Before election day the thought of having provin- cial income tax dropping significantly was appeal- ing. After all, Gordon Campbell did promise that we would have more mon-: ey in our pockets to spend in the economy. Little did I know then that the B.C.. Liberals would just download these taxes into user fees, tolls and high utility prices. J think we all know now that this was a big scam and we're all worse off. Where does this all end, Roger? How much of our total income are you after? What's next? Every- where I turn, my wallet is being bled out. It’s winter here eight months of the year and I have no choice but to heat my home. Now that hydro is’ going to go up through privatization, there. is- no point to switch over from natural gas. Wood heat? Then I have to face the in- surance company. =~ =~ I thought that I was al- ready paying for highways at the pump. (7 know what — was said, but once the -toll booths are here, they will grow like a disease) There is no escape, no chance to save and -I would gladly buy back my - , 25,, per Gent. .dincome., hx rather. than’ face “your” fi ty’s current alternative. Levying, downloading tax to userftoll/utility fees indi- cates a lack of depth and innovation. Do we live in the land of the free? If we do get the 2010 Get cats spayed Dear Sir: I would like to give a bouquet of roses to the Bulkley Valley Vet Clinic for taking in four very new kittens that [ found in a dumpster at the Boulder Creek Rest Stop 15 minutes east of Terrace. Thumbs down to the cold hearted person who left them there to die. Be a responsible pet owner and get your cat spayed. Steve Christie, Prince George, B.C, Rar” et Northwest Smile Design Center OPA. I will not be able to see them because there will be nothing left in my account from paying tax. Nor will I be able to pay big time pay per view. I just wanted to figure out how wholeheartedly I wanted to support an ini- tiative that is very good-for Gordon Campbell's consti- tuents. Oh yeah, I heard MLAs can get free seats into the games. Good on you Rog- er. Pat Smith, Terrace, B,C, Good and bad about Alcan I’m glad to see Alcan is putting some capital forward in response to the community's concerns about the northwest economy. However the money would probably be better invested by determining a way to keep Alcan Ca- hadian anc maintain its role in the regulatory func- tions of power. There is no need to privatize. Keep it as is. That is were the money should be spent. And it was very encouraging to hear Mike Scolt speck out~ against: the: privatization of power in British Columbia. The community of Kitimat has done a fabulous in fighting the rumours, innuendo and proposals for Alcan ptivatization.
