Three file to be Alliance candidate in next election IT’S OFFICIAL — there's going to be a solid race for the Canadian Alliance no- mination for the Skeena ri- ding in the next federal election. Former Stewart mayor Andy Burton, current Van- couver Island Alliance MP Bill Gilmour. and Thornhill resident. Ted Wyatt have filed nomination papers. The candidate’s posi- lion became open in Au- gust when current Alliance ‘MP Mike Scott announced he’s retiring after two terms in office. Born in Powell River, Gilmour, 57, is a graduate Reform party in 1993 and repeated that in 1997, But Gilmour’s hopes to be nominated again as a Canadian Allianee candi- date for the next federal election were dashed when a Nanaimo chiropractor called James Lunney de- feated him this past June. Lunney, a member of an evangelical church in Nanaimo, “signed up his whole church,” said Gil- mour He said his supporters, thinking the nomination was assured, didn’t attend the meeting.
