B16 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, June 17, 1998 Ruggers keep win streak alive BY DAVID D. HULL THE NORTHCOAST Rugby Union featured two matches Saturday June 6 at the North Wes! Community College. In the opening contest, the Terrace Northmen domi- nated the Prince Rupert Scamen in the ranning battle for supremacy in the league, winning the game with a convincing 31-12 score. Rucking and mavling are two methods of gaining con- trol of the bail alter a tackle has occurred. The former when the ball is on the ground and the ob- ject is to push over the ball and feed it back with your feet (rucking). The latter is when the ball is held in the arms and a series of strong grappling is required to get possession of the ball and feed if out (mauling). Northmen player coach Ken ‘Keen’ Mansfield was very impressed with his lads’ efforls and declared the game the best per- formance of the season. “We played very dis- ciplined and controlled rugby. We managed to keep possession through second and third phase play and feed the ball to the backs, culminating in some im- pressive trys,’’ he said. “The boys have been praclising very hard the past few weeks and their efforts ‘ “The boys have been practising very hard the past few weeks and their efforts have been rewarded.” have been rewarded.” The Northmen led 20-5 ai the half and went on to add an additional 11 points in the second half while the Seamen were held to a meagre seven points in the final stanza.
