The Terrace Tennis Club expects that a great number of new players will be out this year. TERRACE — Many local residents have licensed their motor- cycles or are considering purchasing a two wheel. vehicle for the upcoming riding season. by James Gilham Terrace Contributor A number of people around town have joined the Terrace Roadrunners Motorcycle Club for weekend excursions to surrounding com- munities. Who are we? The Roadrunners Motorcycle Club (RMC) started with a group of motorcycle riders who got together in 1982 out of a common interest in biking. The club is now made up of people who enjoy talking about motorcycles, exchanging biking experiences and ideas and above all riding! Many of our members have toured throughout B.C. and North America, but we aren’t a ‘‘touring’”’ club as such. The RMC is not rigid- ly structured, in fact it is our desire to keep the club as informal as poss- ible, as we have found that this is one of the features our members like the most. We do hold regular monthly meetings to plan events and welcome new members. We also have a periodic newsletter to _ keep all our members in- Roadrunners ride together formed on the latest plans and activities of the club. The RMC is affiliated with the B.C. Motorcy- cle Federation from which we receive various benefits, newsletters and helpful information. Each individual member of the RMC is also a member of the federa- tion, and receives the benefits of that organiza- tion. Past Events In the past few years, the RMC has organized or taken part in many community, and biking events, . Each spring, the club has had a display in the Skeena Mall in conjunc- tion with the motorcycle dealer new model show. These displays have been to create better public ‘awareness of the club and of motorcycles in general and to promote motorcycle safety. A parking lot “Skills Rodeo’’ early in the riding season, has been sponsored to help bikers brush up on the basics, after an always too long winter layoff. The em- phasis is always on fun and there are usually a few prizes handed out. The club initiated a Motorcycle Aware- ness/Safety Week, each year in May. This event is now recognized across the province in the at- . tempt to make motorists more aware of motor- cycles, to prevent the ««. but I didn’t see him!’’ accidents. Every June, the club participates in’ the ma- tional Ride For Sight. Sponsored in B.C. by the B.C. Motorcycle Federa- tion, the ride is a charity fund-raising event with the proceeds going to the National Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation.
