December 17, 1993 Jeff Yip, P.Eng. City of Port Coquitlam -4- Liaison with Environmental Agencies’. ‘ Associated Engineering enjoys a good working relationship with both B.C. Environment’s Fish and Wildlife Branch and the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This relationship has been developed on a number of projects completed by Associated Engineering including several drainage nump stations and the- Coquitlam River Flood Control Program. We are familiar with the concerns of these environmental authorities regarding the installation of drainage pumping stations within fish habitat. : Throughout the design process, Associated Engineering will liaise with- the environmental authorities to keep these agencies up to date and obtain their input in a timely manner. Preliminary Design Completion of the drainage study will allow a preliminary design for the pump station to be completed. This design will size the structure, select pumps and establish the general arrangement for the new pump -- station including any inlet work and screens. 2 Associated Engineering has been involved in the design of pump . stations which are "fish friendly" and incorporate means of allowing juvenile fish to pass through or around the pump station facility without significant mortality rates. This is typically achieved by the use of either archimedean screw pumps or fine screens and a smail fish pump in front of the lead drainage pump. Our experience has shown archimedean screw pumps are typically cost effective for larger pump stations. We believe at this location the most cost effective approach will be to install submersible drainage pumps with fish screens and a‘ fish pump in front of the lead pump. ASSOCIATED f- ENGINEERING
