THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ITEM II =~ Continued The Committee looked at the accident rate in com- parison with other intersections along the Lougheed Highway. For the year 1979 the following accident rates apply: Coast Meridian at Lougheed - 28, Oxford at Lougheed - 37, Shaughnessy at Lougheed - 64, Hastings at Lougheed - 23. The accidents for Westwood are not readily available because part of the intersection is in the District. From the accident rates it would not appear that there is an unusual problem at this intersection. In fact, the worst accident rate is at Shaughnessy which does have separate left-turn signals. ; Under the Provincial cost-sharing formula the City would be required to pay one-third of the cost of any signal- ization changes at this intersection. Depending on how much work has to be done to modify the installation, the City share could be anywhere from $3,060 to $10,000. Even if both the City and the Department of Highways agreed to spend the money to modify the signal, there is no guarantee that the accident rate would be reduced and even a possibility that it might increase. Therefore, the Committee recommends that we do not apply for left-turn signals at the intérsection. ITEM III Re: Tenders for Dyke Pumps The consultants doing the design of the pumping stations at Dominion and Harbour Street have tendered the supply of the pumps and motors for the two locations. A copy of the tender evaluation sheet and the consultant's recommendation is attached. There were three acceptable tenders ranging in price from $43,319 to $70,095. The lowest tender is from Wilron Equipment Ltd. which supplied the equipment for the Cedar Drive pumping station. The tendered price is well within our budget as our estimate for the two pumps totalled $57,000. The Committee recommends that the contract for supply of the these two pumps be placed with Wilron Equipment Ltd. in accordance with the specifications and the tender received. ITEM IV Re: Access for Scouts Christmas Tree Sale AS requested by Council, the Committee reviewed the proposed location for the Scouts QGristmas tree sale at the corner of Pitt River Road and Shaughnessy Street.
