As a result of not being informed in a timely man- ner, I am now having to have tests and deal with certain discomforts asso- ciated with possibly being infected by bad water. One would think that both the water utility com- pany and the health unit would err on the side of caution as soon as il was evident that there was even a remote possibility the water had become tainted. , That is, as soon as there was the need for a switch from one reservoir to an- ather and at any suspicion that it would be a chal- lenge to chlorinate it pro- . perly, a notice should have | gone out to all media forms in our area. Our household never re- ceived any notification of the “boil water advisory.” I listen te CBC Radio, and it was never men- tioned there. 1 found out verbally through my son, who was advised at his place of work. A vote for DARE Dear Sir: It appears that there is a group of parents living in our community who have a very negative view toward implementing the DARE program inte the classroom, The comment made by the RCMP Corporal about why some students would walk out on such a discussion may not have been what these parents wanted to hear as well’ as threatening to their par- ental image. I’m sure there are other factors that would cause some to excuse themselves. However, I do not feel that one person’s com- ment should cause the primary focus of drug awareness to be cast aside while these parents fret about whether or not they appear to be good par- énts to the rest of the community. it is time to think about-the children who may not have this type of support, communication and information provided within the family. Those whose parents turn a blind eye refusing to believe that their child would gamble with drugs. Kids whose parents just don’l care. So what will become of the youth who have not been informed at home about the dangers of drugs? Will they seek the information themselves, or will their curiosity get the better of them? It is a saddening reality that not all children are , comfortable talking to their parents about drugs, sex an other serious topics and vice versa. So why not give the option of being able to sit down to a lesson where you can work with a group of peers or simply sit back and take in the facts. I’m not saying that those who are teaching their children the ways of the world are making the wrong choice. I think parents should teach their children all they have learned themselves and kudos to those who are capable of doing it all on their own. I do however feel that denying the implementa- tion of the DARE program into Coast Mountain School district would not be beneficial. It is not fair to have the ignorance of some affect so many others.
