held, beginning. the morning of
Aug. 18 and the 10 days of com-
petition will close on the morning
of Aug. 28 with: the final track

* New facilities have been built
for lawn bowls, cycling and the
aquatic events while the Univer-
sily of Victoria's stadium is get-
ting a facelift for the track and

LISTENING SPOT.....

As | sat there on the rock | realized that, in spite of the
closeness of civilization and the changes that hemmed it in, this
remnant of tha old wilderness would speak to me of silence and
‘solitude of belonging and wonder and beauty. Though the point
was only a small part of the vasinass reaching far ta the Arctic, .
from it | could survey the whole. While It would be mine for only a
short time, this glaciated shore with its twisted trees and.caribou |.
moss would grow into my life and into the lives of all who shared it
with me. | named this place "Listening Point" because only when |
one comes to listen, only when one is aware and still, can things
be seen and heard. “Everyone has a listeriing-point somewhere",

It does not-have to be in the north close to the wilderness, but
some place of quiet where the universe can ba contemplated with
awa, This quote Is from Sigurd Olsen (Listening Point). —

If you feel the same as Mr. Olsen did then maybe you could
discover your “listening point" by visiting one of the provincial
parks close to you. Not far to the east-from Terrace is Kleanza.
Creek Provincial Park, a great place foran alternoon or overnight
stay.

Just south of Terrace on the way to Kitimat is beautiful Lakelse |-
Lake Park. Visit Furlong Bay and take part in an. interpretive:
Program or hike tha 1 kilometre trail into Grunch'’s Beach for that 1 i
out of the way experience. oy
