Williscroft left Tues- day for her home in: Vancouver, after being a guest of Mrs. R. 8. Sargent for a couple of weeks. Hankin that he had made a rich strike in the placer gold-field at Dease Lake and that he hoped to make a good cleanup. Tommy went into the Dease Lake country as soon as the first reports of gould were made, and he has remained there since. H. Berge left this week for the Babines to werk in the mines, Mrs. Fakeley is spending sume weeks at Mrs. Newick’s and is renewing old acquaintances here. She arrived from California last Monday night after an absence of over a year. She says B. C. never appealed to her as it did .|she got to California. Rumor has it that the road work in this district is to be shut down shortly. This seems hard- ly creditable so early in the sea- son and so much yet to do that was promised. Held Travelling Court To make it more convenient for the farmers of the Lakes district to attend County Court, His Honour Judge Young, of Prince Rupert, held sessions at Burns Lake, Francois Lake, and Ootsa Lake on Thursday and Friday of last week. It was found neces- sary to postpone the civil cases on the docket, but a number of applications for naturalization papers were given a hearing. His Honor, accompanied by Mrs, Young, continued the journey on to Prince George on Saturday, to spend a few days with their son, A. McB. Young, a barrister in that city. United S. S.
