PAGE 8, THE HERALD, Monday, September 11, 1978 Planning For Retirement The first of aseries of eight 30-minute programs on for retirement, professionals, with the financial assistance of six B.C,. companies and the British Columbia govern- ment (Public Service Commission}, will be shown on the community channel, TK Cablevision, September 20th, at B p.m. In recent years there has been anintense awareness of the problems individuals encounter when suddenly faced with time on their hands at age 65, following a lifetime of activity. A number of large companies and special interest groups have conducted planning- for-retirement seminars, but, up until now, there has been little available for. The present ambitious series was put together for showing over an 8-week period on cablevision community charinels in some 35 «cities «and = towns thraughout the province. The B.C, companies sharing expenses for the production are: British Columbia Forest Products Limited, B.C. Telephone Company, Cassiar Asbestos Cor- poration Limited, The North West Life Assurance Company of Canada, Government of British Columbia (Public Service Commission), The Royal Trust Company and Whitepass & Yukon Route. The first program, ''Time for the Taking”, explains the need for people within a few years of their retgirement age to begin to plan. Em- phasis is laid on the need for continuing involvement, preferably in the activity which involves service to others. During the program, several retired people aescripe nuw they have adapted themselves. Speakers include Elizabeth Hopkins, a retired nurse and now acclaimed artist, living on Galiano Island, Gordon Shrum, Grace McKinnis, Clare Buckland, Ed. D., an individual and [amily con- sultant, -Dr. James Lynch, Assistant Professor, Centre for Gerantology, University _ of Oregon, and writer John Duthie. Co-hosts for the series are Doug Short and Zoe Gropper. The next program in the series deals with Money Matters.
