GUUT THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM NOV 29 {982 TO: B. Kirk, November 25, 1982 City Administrator FROM: F.E. Peters., P. Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: Landscaping for Shaughnessy/Wilson/Marpole Intersection — Public Works Committee, Nov. 16, 1982 RECOMMENDATION: That the old Marpole Avenue road allowance at the above intersection not be converted into parking but that special signing be placed through the downtown area directing people to the existing parking lots. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: On instructions from Council both the Public Works Committee and the Downtown Revitalization Committee have reconsidered the request to look at the possibility of placing parking in the Marpole/Wilson intersection on the old Marpole Avenue road allowance. The attached sketch shows a parking arrangement for twelve vehicles with access off the lane east of Shaughnessy Street. This parking lot would take up approximately 60% of the area available for landscaping and would cost about $10,000 to construct. A report from the Downtown Revitalization Committee is attached. The report recommends that the area be landscaped and additional signing be placed in the City center directing peopie to the existing parking lots. The Public Works Committee also recommends that the parking not be installed because of the un-budgeted cost and because of the loss of landscaping for the Southgate entrance to the City center. F.E.
