Apartheid is here
and so is racism

Dear Sir:

Frequent letter writer Bill Hom-
burg undoubiedly has a few con-
cerns about the implication of self
government and its potential af-
fect on non-native people.

While it is casy to understand
his concem regarding racism and
‘injustice, what Mr. Homburg
neglected to point out is that we
already have an apartheid system
in Canada today.

would agree that the Indian Act is
a piece of legislation that asserts
control over. every. aspect of our
lives. The Indian Act’s (which is
far more advanced that of South
Africa) sole purpose is to destroy
the native way: of lifé and to as-
similate them into the mainstream
society without arousing interna-
tional protest.

African policies regarding the
Blacks and their homelands is
based on the Canadian system of

forget what your government and
your ancestors have done to my
people. Was it out of love that
your government and churches
put generations upon generations
of my relations into residential
schools and boarding schools? So
that the majority of them could
leam about sexual, physical and
mental abuse from pricsts, nuns
and ex-servicemen,

racist that even the law of the
land abuses our people in small
communities throughout Canada.

will-lead Canada down the new
and improved yellow brick road.
Not content to earn his spurs by
building a political party based on
membership: and _ popularity,
Chairman Mel wants to leap frog
ahead of the pack by pulling a
“Wilson.”

politician was right when he said
that natives should have killed the
first Europeans who intruded on
our shores. Then we wouldn’t
have to listen to bigots like you
whose ancestors belicved the
world was flat.

Until you can recognize thut we
are nations everyway different as
a Cree is from a Nisga’a, like an
Englishman from a German, there
will always be racism and in-

Mr. Homburg, you can call our
people anything you want, the
truth won't change a thing. If you
want justice, Mr. Homburg, go
home!

Go back across the sea and take
your political sysicm, language,
and culture and stop forcing them
upon my people.
