This team of junior ladies represented Terrace at the district-4 curting playdowns held in Houston recently. They finished second to the Christine Ho rink of Prince Rupert. It was a six-team, double-knockout series, and Williams won ‘‘A”’ side by beating Bob Baase of Houston 7-6 in the final. After dropping down to ‘‘B’’ side, Williams faced Ed Colinson of Smithers and lost 8-3, Baase then beat Colin- son 8-6 and took on Williams as the winner Curling playdowns of ‘‘B” side, Baase took the deciding game 9-3 to gain a berth in the in- terior finals at Barriere, Feb. 20 to 22. Meanwhile, Houston played host to the district-4 senior and junior ladies’ playdowns that same weekend. _ In the senior’s three- team, double-round- robin series, the veteran Jean Billing of Prince Rupert came out on top with a three-win, one- loss record. Billing earned a trip to Kimberley, Feb. 19 to 25 for provincial finals. Billing is a former B.C. champ. Helen Francour was runnerup to Billing with two wins and two losses. Shirley Baker of Smithers placed third at one-and-three. For the junior ladies’ similar playoff, Rupert’s Christine Ho added this title to the B.C. school- girls’ zone title she won earlier this month. Ho won all four of her games. - Sherrie Fisher of Ter- race was second at two- and-two. Michelle Larue of Smithers ended up winless in four tries. Ho now faces two pro- vincial finals next month. She goes to the junior ladies’ playdown Feb.. 12 to 16 in Van- couver, then goes to the school-girls’ playoff Feb. 20 to 22 in North Vancouver. NBCWG only eight days away . The countdown to the 1986 Northern B.C. Winter Games is now eight days away. All registrations from all regions are in and the games are looking at 22,000 athletes partak- ing in 21 ~~ different events, Backgammon = and cribbage were cancelled due to lack of registra- tion but all other events are a go-ahead. The games are to be held Feb, 6to 9 in Smithers, B.C, Billeting has gone well, Many local people have phoned in or drop- ped by the office, anxi- ous to be part of this event. A bus shuttle service has been set up to get athletes from venue site to venue site. The games officially started on Jan. 24 when the torth was run into Smithers and the large torch lit in front of the Central Park Building by one of Smithers’ aldermen. The event took place at 7 p.m. at the same time as there was a torch run down Alpinhorn ski run on Hudson Bay Mountain. Residents in the com- munity were able to see this run while they watched the official torch being lit, Athletes will arrive by bus Thursday, Feb. 6 and pick up informa- tion packages at Chand- ler Park Middle School. They will then go to their billet homes until the next morning when all events begin. Clippers, Kluss victorious © It was victories for Ev’s Clippers and Kluss ’n Sons in Terrace Men’s Basketball League action at Skeena high school, Jan. 21, The Clippers took Skeena Hotel 77-65 with Richard Klein’s 27 points leading the way. Willie Chemko had 18. It was Mike Hogg with 20 and Kelly Derksen with 18 for Skeena. On Jan. 23, the other two teams came up with wins, Skeena outscored Kluss 96-86 as Phil Letham and Mike Hogg each scored 22 points. Doug Caldwell had 21, Todd Grant had 23 and Andy Ruygroc 22 for Kluss. All Seasons got 32 points from Roland Bar- ton in their 89-32 win over Ev’s Clippers. It was Richard Klein with 27 and Steve Gagnon with 22 for Ev’s.
